We’re excited to announce Alpha 16, our holiday release focused on archival fidelity, smarter image handling, and a smoother GUI experience. This update brings new tools for preserving disc structure, merging images, editing metadata in place, and more—designed to make archival workflows faster, safer, and more reliable.
Aaru now features a complete GUI, letting you connect to devices locally or remotely, view detailed media information, run real-time scans with block maps and speed graphs, and even dump media directly—all in one place. Side logs like MHDD and ImgBurn are supported too. Everything is accessible through the interface, though remember: it’s still in alpha, so expect some bugs!
Aaru now has a sleek, cross-platform graphical interface for image management! Built with modern tools and years of experience, this first public GUI release is polished, intuitive, and ready for testing. AaruFormat V2 is here! Redesigned from the ground up to support massive disk images, better modularity, and full library integration via libaaruformat. Available now in Aaru 6.0.0-alpha.13 — test it, break it, and help us improve it!
libaaruformat has reached full feature parity with Aaru, supporting all AaruFormat v1 capabilities and introducing AaruFormat v2 with new enhancements like multi-level deduplication tables for more efficient large-disk preservation. This milestone paves the way for upcoming features such as snapshots, parent images, and integration into Aaru’s next alpha releases.
